The Power of Collaboration: Community Partners Works Closely with Existing Resources to Achieve Objectives
Safe & Sound Community Partners continues to develop collaborative relationships that significantly influence the future directions of the program. For example, efforts are underway with District Attorney’s Community Conferencing Program to train restorative justice practices to Safe Place youth and staff so that they may facilitate cases involving criminal wrongdoing within their own neighborhoods. One case through the District Attorney’s Office is already scheduled for August, while we are continuing to organize for the Safe Streets Initiative. A collaborative crime reporting system involving Milwaukee HIDTA, the Community Prosecution Unit, Community Partners, and MPD Community Liaison Officers using the City of Milwaukee COMPASS website has been implemented and will continue to develop. The on-line application is currently being updated to increase communications and outcomes capability between the various agencies. Through a partnership with the Department of Neighborhood Services, Community Partners went city wide with a unique strategy to address nuisance vehicles that pose a health and safety risk to the community. The removal of 80 vehicles was planned for September 2007 and a 70% voluntary resident compliance was achieved. The capabilities, relationships and experience of Community Partners to implement the Safe & Sound goals through collaboration is undeniable. We are excited to see how the collaborative roles of Safe & Sound can evolve to continue to improve the quality of life for residents in the City of Milwaukee.
