Lavarnway Youth Leadership Group

As part of their Crime Strategy Initiative, the Lavarnway Boys & Girls Club youth leaders have held a series of talking circles with Safe & Sound Public Ally Julie Knorowski to discuss and come to a consensus on how to address the numerous issues in the surrounding community. As a result of discussion around teen pregnancy and youth violence, they decided to work with Charles Reese to invite the Sheriffs Department to present the dangers of alcohol and drunk driving and Choices and Consequences. Several members of the leadership group had personal issues with alcohol and driving during Prom. Another young girl was having ongoing issues with other girls when outside the Club on the street. She realized from the Choices and Consequences presentation that fighting with the girls could lead to more problems and possibly involvement with the criminal justice system. Instead she decided to work with Youth Coordinators at the Club and Charles Reese to resolve the issues with the girls safely.
