Safe Places and Community Conferencing Opportunities

Over the years we have integrated Community Conferencing with Safe & Sound by utilizing ‘Safe Places’ as neutral locations for conferences. We are currently in the process of training Safe Place staff and youth to become Communmity Conferencing community members and facilitators.

Through these collaborative efforts we have been able to involve youth, staff and residents from the community where the crime has occurred, while exposing young offenders to a positive community organizations and individuals. We also welcomed other Community Conferencing facilitators to consider the 35 Safe Places in Milwaukee’s high-crime, low-income neighborhoods as conference sites. Moreover, we encourage facilitators to include trained Safe Place staff and youth as participants in their cases.

Recently, Safe & Sound Community Partners agreed to facilitate all of the Milwaukee drug and graffiti cases handled by the Community Conferencing Program We truly believe that through this interaction everyone involved will benefit.
