Safe & Sound Hires Public Allies to Develop Youth Leadership Efforts
Caleb Streich and Stephanie Paul are Safe & Sound’s Public Allies for 10 months of service in 2008 and 2009. The Public Allies will work directly with designated Safe & Sound Community Partners and Safe Places to develop Safe Place Youth Leadership Groups, which will plan and implement youth-led Crime Strategy Initiatives and recruitment efforts. Each ally will work directly with four Safe Places, youth-serving organizations funded by Safe & Sound, to facilitate youth leadership meetings, develop initiatives to address a crime issue chosen by these youth, generate and implement effective recruitment strategies for higher-risk youth populations, and set obtainable goals and outcomes. Moreover, Stephanie and Caleb facilitate the development of collaborative and sustainable relationships with community stakeholders, including the designated Safe & Sound Community Partner and area law enforcement personnel.
Additional activities will include a lead poisoning education and awareness and Pitbull/Rottweiler safety outreach projects. These will enable the Allies to develop the skills, relationships and experience necessary for the implementation of the Safe Place initiatives. Lastly, significant training and ‘shadow’ opportunities will be offered to provide Stephanie and Caleb with greater overall understanding of the work being done in Milwaukee.
