2009 Safe & Sound Grantees Announced

Safe & Sound is proud to announce that 29 Milwaukee community centers have been selected as 2009 Safe Place Grantees. Safe Places offer after-school activities that give teens an opportunity to explore new interests, meet new friends, and have fun, while educating them regarding the consequences of crime, and how it affects their lives. In 2009, there are two types of Safe Places: S.A.F.E. programs (sequential, active, focused and explicit) and Youth Together Drop-In Centers (YTDC).

S.A.F.E. programs help youth achieve personal and social skills through interactive forms of learning. S.A.F.E. grants are awarded to programs that intervene in the lives of youth who are considered to be at a higher risk for youth crime, substance abuse and risk-taking behaviors. Youth Together Drop-In Centers (YTDC) provide neighborhood-level out-of-school time programs and services for youth that address youth development and include social enrichment activities.
