Partners Collect Resident Input for Neighborhood Strategic Planning Meetings
Safe & Sound Community Partners hit the streets with Neighborhood Strategic Planning (NSP) Organizers from the 18 NSP areas over the last several months. A total of 1,894 “quick surveys” were completed. During a quick survey, residents are asked a few short questions, provided an informational flyer, and encouraged to attend the community meeting specific to their NSP neighborhood. The majority of respondents would like to stay in the community and, interestingly, the most recognized neighborhood asset is strong community values. Good housing, public safety, and youth and family services were also assets recognized by resident respondents.
The series of meetings, contacts with residents, and “quick surveys” will provide input for a five year Community Development Block Grant funding plan. The surveys were entered into a web based tool by Safe & Sound and sent out to the various community representatives and planning facilitators prior to each neighborhood meeting. The approach was worked out by Safe & Sound with CDBG Director Steven Mahan in an effort to gain input from residents who may not attend the neighborhood meetings. A city-wide assessment of resident surveys is at the following link:
