Community Days: Truly a Great Neighborhood Event

Aug 6th, 2009

Incarnation Lutheran Church Community Days Block Party has become an annual event and is in its 4th year. The Incarnation Lutheran Church’s Parish Life Council partners with community based organizations and other faith based organizations, as well as the city and other government entities to make this event a success from year-to-year.

Safe & Sound Community Partner Al Hegwood has helped facilitate many a street event but this one he describes as a “block party extravaganza.” As Al states, “where else can you access resources, enjoy a talent show, play bingo, and have a horse ride but on 15th & Keefe?” He works closely with Incarnation to involve local businesses, area block clubs and block watches, and the Sheriff’s Mounted Unit. Al also collaborates with other community based organizations to plan the event, including the North West Side Community Development Corporation (CDC), Riverworks CDC, and the Harambee Great Neighborhoods Initiative. It is the collective contributions of these organizations that make these neighborhood based efforts possible and just that much more successful.

With a conservative count of 295 residents, Community Day is an awesome event that reaches out to the surrounding neighborhood with a positive message and commitment to building a better neighborhood. We hope it continues to grow and spread year after year.
