Safe & Sound is currently seeking three Community Prosecution Unit Coordinators to serve within targeted Safe & Sound neighborhoods and correlating Milwaukee Police Districts. Coordinators and prosecutors are already in place in a limited number of police districts, and the collaborative proposal awarded to Safe & Sound and the District Attorney’s Office will allow its expansion. It is a needed addition for the incredibly successful geographically based Community Prosecution Units in Milwaukee.

The coordinators will work closely with other Safe & Sound staff and programming. They will also collaborate intensively with the Community Prosecutors, the police department and other community-based organizations.

Community Prosecution Unit Coordinators serve as a liaisons between City of Milwaukee residents living in the assigned Milwaukee Police Department districts and various law-enforcement, other government agencies, and the Assistant District Attorneys serving as Community Prosecutors in these neighborhoods. The coordinators chief responsibility is to assist in the process of information gathering, organization and reporting leading to the abatement of Community Prosecution Unit reported nuisances, including drug, gang, prostitution, graffiti and other civil and criminal issues that arise in and around properties.

Additionally, they will be responsible for planning and coordinating community forums, landlord meetings, block watch meetings and other community collaborations which orient residents, families and businesses on the nuisance abatement process and provide resources and advocacy to encourage crime prevention, gang prevention and crime awareness. Safe & Sound Community Partners already work closely ensuring these objectives are being met and bringing coordinators in-house will lead to increased success and effectiveness.
