Safe & Sound organizer Annie Weidert among Southside award recipients
Dec 6th, 2009
Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn has more recently credited the sustained reduction in crime to not only a dedicated police force and timely data analysis, but also effective neighborhood block clubs, block watches, concerned businesses and dedicated resident leadership. This was emphasized at a recent Block Watch Awards Ceremony in Southside police districts 2 and 6. Police Captains Gaglione and Young were recognized for their excellence in community policing along with their committed officers. However, the evening was devoted to the numerous individuals who have gone the extra mile to make their community safer, bringing residents together to make their Milwaukee neighborhoods safe places to work, live and raise families.
One of our own Safe & Sound Community Partners, Annie Weidert, was among those recognized for their contribution to safety and community building on the Southside. Moreover, two of the Block Captains she works closely with, Linda Zinke and Lola Hernandez, were also honored. One thing is for sure, they have earned the respect of their neighborhood and have selflessly devoted so much time and energy to making the community better; all three really deserve this special recognition!
Annie has only been with Safe & Sound for a little over two years, but has found great success developing neighborhood leadership in the high-crime areas she serves. Annie is fluent in Spanish and brings a diverse organizing background to the Southside, building the capacity of resident groups as well Safe & Sound. Congratulations to all on their hard work on the Southside and your much deserved recognition!
