Who Should Attend the Landlord Training Program?

Mar 1st, 2010

Anyone who is working with landlords, tenants, criminal nuisance issues or neighborhood block clubs can benefit from the City of Milwaukee Landlord Training Program. Winter is a great time to schedule training for community organizers, and the last week of February was no different. With snow still falling outside Safe & Sound organizers were busy taking in the Landlord Training Program presented by Karin Long. The training enables Safe & Sound staff to communicate more effectively with landlords dealing with criminal nuisance issues and tenants struggling with problematic neighbors or landlords while working at the street level.

The Landlord Training Program is paid for by Community Development Block Grant Funds and is an award winning program operated by the Department of Neighborhood Services. The goal is to teach landlords fundamental ways to keep illegal activity out of their property. The classes are free and held on a regular basis through out the year at various locations during the evenings or on weekends. The classes are generally either (1) five hour session in one day or (2) two and a half hour sessions for two nights. Attendees get a free 100 page comprehensive manual and handouts on a variety of legal and business issues related to managing a property.
