Best Practices in Youth Violence Prevention Symposium

Jun 21st, 2010

Safe & Sound and the Medical College of Wisconsin Violence Prevention Initiative (VPI) are pleased to present a one-day symposium entitled Building on Our Strengths:  Best Practices in Youth Violence Prevention.  This event, to be held at the Marquette University Alumni Union on July 13, 2010, will feature local and national experts on evidence-based practices that work both to prevent violence and to intervene effectively with high-risk youth. Symposium highlights include:

  • Strategies for incorporating evidence-based practices, including outcome measurement, into local programs
  • Bridging restorative practices and evidence-based programming within an integrated risk reduction model
  • Targeting programs that respond to individual youth strengths and criminogenic needs
  • Identifying and practicing techniques that work to motivate high risk youth
  • Celebrating the accomplishments of local youth leaders who work to prevent violence in our community

Presenters will share a wealth of knowledge and experience from a juvenile justice and public health approach to preventing youth violence.   This multidisciplinary symposium thus is designed for diverse practitioners interested in building safer communities by supporting and building on our biggest strength:  our youth.
