2010 Anti-Gang Summit: Leveraging the Resources of Community and Law Enforcement to Combat Gangs
Aug 24th, 2010
No single agency can solve gang crime and violence alone. It’s imperative that all agencies work together and develop partnerships in an effort to improve the quality of life throughout Wisconsin. The 2010 Southeastern Wisconsin Anti- Gang Summit will bring diverse agencies together to learn about new and developing strategies and network with other individuals challenged with reducing gangs and their impact in the community.
The “Anti-Gang Summit” should be attended by law enforcement officers, prosecutors, Department of Corrections personnel, social workers, teachers and other school district personnel, recreational workers, community groups, faith based leaders, hospital personnel, social services agencies and government officials. Attendees will have the option to select from over 50 programs as they work with other professionals in their community to address violent crime issues. Instruction will be provided by experienced practitioners and experts on topics including: parent intervention strategies; technology and on-line social networking; motorcycle gangs; female gang members; re-entry programs; mental health issues; cultural competency; gangs in the prison system; early interventions; gun trafficking; and restorative justice practices.
Safe & Sound has contributed greatly to planning and preparations of the conference. Milwaukee HIDTA, also part of the Safe & Sound strategy, is providing presenters and planning expertise from their team of gang experts. Safe Places will present on unique anti-gang early intervention strategies and other Safe & Sound community anti-gang collaborations will also be highlighted, including a session on restorative justice practices with at-risk youth, law enforcement and residents.
