Working with Youth at High Risk
A workshop for professionals working with high-risk and at-risk youth will be held Monday and Tuesday, October 18th and 19th at the UWM School for Continuing Education, 161 W. Wisconsin Ave. The program, entitled “Working with Youth at High Risk,” will review the challenges and paradoxes of adolescence and discuss what it means to be at high risk from the perspective of developmental, relational, and narrative experiences.
The featured presenter will be Dr. Mark Krueger, director and founder of the Youth Work Learning Center at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. Prior to coming to UWM he was a youth worker for eleven years, and has written 12 books and many articles about the practice of youth work. He has an international reputation, speaking on numerous occasions throughout the US, Canada, and Europe where he has taught and learned about serving youth from relational and developmental perspectives. During his 35-year career, he has been an active participant in the effort to form a profession of child and youth care.
As a participant you will get practical, research-based strategies for impacting the lives of our most challenged, and often underserved youth. This interactive workshop will be filled with discussions and exercises that will explore how competencies such as empathy, listening, and developmental interventions and activities geared to high risk youths’ readiness and capacity to change can promote positive individual and systemic outcomes.
You don’t want to miss this important opportunity to engage with fellow youth workers and resource professionals. Sign up today because space is limited.
There is no charge for the program, but participants must register. To RSVP, call or email Sharon Koziczkowski at 220-4797 or skoziczkowski@milwaukeehidta.org. Registration deadline is Thursday, October 14.
