District 4 National Night Out Promoted on Facebook
These days, Craig Shockley, Community Prosecution Unit Coordinator District 4, has his own Facebook page. He used the social media site to promote the recent District 4 National Night Out event with residents in the area. The updates on Facebook, planning meetings, donations, food, activities, resource presenters and the overall collaboration resulted in a great anti-crime event with a fabulous turnout.
National Night Out is an opportunity to raise awareness of crime and drug prevention efforts at the local and national level. Every year National Night Out campaigns involve citizens, law enforcement, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials in cities and towns across the nation with millions of participants. The goal of National Night Out is to
- Raise awareness of crime and drug prevention efforts
- Generate involvement for anti-crime programs like Safe & Sound
- Strengthen community building and community policing
- Let criminals know that neighborhoods are not going to let crime take over!
Beyond the Facebook connections, many people and organizations helped make the District 4 National Night Out a success. Those central to the planning included Community Liaison Officer Meredith, Assistant District Attorney and Community Prosecutor Mark Sanders, Department of Corrections Agents Coulson and Herron, Urban De’Version’s Jewell Carter, Safe & Sound Community Partner Aaron Edwards, and Teen Challenge’s Bethany Bailey and Nathan Bowling. Safe & Sound’s Craig Shockley played a major role in ramping up the organization and donations for the event this year making it one of the biggest ever in District 4.
