District 2 CLO Shines in the Spotlight
Community Liaison Officer Jesus Gloria has become a regular household name on the Southside of Milwaukee these days. If you don’t see him at a block meeting you may catch him on a neighborhood walk. If you give him a call but don’t catch him, maybe you will on the evening news.
Maybe you’ll read about Officer Gloria in the paper, such as the front page story about how he handed out hats to students at Lincoln Avenue Elementary School. It was a good deed Scott asked his farther to help with for his Bar Mitzvah. Scott’s father Steven Arenzon owns Wisconsin Knitwear and asked Gloria and other officers to help give away the hats to those in need.
Maybe you saw the Hispanic News Network USA article that talked about how Officer Gloria was recognized by Mayor Barrett for his work with Block Clubs. Maria Sandoval of Safe & Sound was helping register participants at the 2011 District 2 Block Watch Awards Dinner on Thursday, Dec 15th and said that Jesus was working the crowd once again.
But don’t think that Officer Gloria’s job is all fun and games. Much of what a Community Liaison Officer does is help the public understand how to work more effectively with the police department. When too many residents want to avoid police, don’t have a good relationship, and perhaps only speak Spanish, you need someone like Gloria to bridge the gap. Safe & Sound is also focused on bridging the gap with youth, residents and law enforcement to reduce crime and having officers that can relate to the frustration and fear of residents, but still asking everyone to do their part is key to reducing crime in Milwaukee. Congratulations to Officer Gloria and the Milwaukee Police 2nd District on a job well done in 2011.
