27th Street West 2012 Coalition Kick-off Meeting Planned
Jan 22nd, 2012
Safe & Sound would like to invite you to be a part of the new and emerging 27th Street West Drug Free Coalition. All sectors of the community – both private and public – are involved in and have provided valuable input into the initial planning process to ensure that the goals and objectives of the Coalition are truly responsive to the needs of the 27th Street West neighborhood.
The planning and assessment process continues in the New Year with the official 2012 Coalition Kick-Off Meeting to be held at Neighborhood House, 2819 W. Richardson Place, on Wednesday, February 8th, 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Everyone’s input and participation in the Coalition is crucial to success and we hope you will join us as we develop this collaborative initiative together.
Last year, Safe & Sound succeeded in obtaining the Drug Free Communities grant and, since then, has continued to develop the 27th Street West Drug Free Coalition. The Coalition is a community partnership focused on reducing drug use among youth in the 53208 zip code area, while bringing additional federal resources to Milwaukee. The overall goal of the 27th Street West Drug Free Coalition is to prevent and reduce substance use among youth and, over time, to reduce substance abuse among adults in this neighborhood at the neighborhood level. Over the coming months, the Coalition will focus on building and strengthening collaboration among neighborhood partners to implement environmental strategies. Ultimately, the Coalition will develop and implement a comprehensive plan for addressing the factors in this neighborhood that increase the risk of substance abuse and promote the factors that minimize that risk. We encourage those who are concerned, committed and passionate about the issues of youth substance abuse to attend this meeting and learn how to play an active role in the Coalition. Contact Safe & Sound at 221-6700 for more information and to RSVP for the 2012 Kick-off Meeting.
