Safe Nights have provided youth with a refuge from the violence and drugs found on the streets and in other venues that organized to entertain young people for nearly 20 years. This event, organized with youth and staff of the Safe Places, will feature the STOP program developed by Officer William Singleton of the 5th District, a crime analysis presentation by CLO Jesus Gloria of the 2nd District, and showcase talented youth performers displaying their vocal and musical prowess. DJ wiz Pakk Mann, a sought after spoken word performer from Running Rebels, will also be on hand to entertain the audience.

“This program is a unique, effective, and shining example of how community efforts can reduce drug use and its consequences,” said Gil Kerlikowske, White House Director of National Drug Control Policy. “Safe & Sound is an example of a local community taking action and addressing this issue head on. Drug use and its consequences strain our economy, our health care and criminal justice systems, and harm the well-being of young people, service members, and America’s workforce.”

Carmen will be hosting a “clean-up” tomorrow at one of her businesses on Cesar Chavez Drive to give residents an opportunity to show their support for the neighborhood. We have planned with other community stakeholders for an exciting day that will remove the signs blight and of crime from the Southside of Milwaukee, and we hope will lead to more community collaborations and a positive energy for change.

Safe & Sound is firmly committed to supporting youth-serving organizations that are dedicated to providing safe, meaningful programs during the crucial afterschool hours, when studies show that youth are at a greater risk of involvement in crime, drug abuse and other destructive behaviors.

The Mutual of America Foundation announced November 19th that it has selected the 10 best non-profit partnership organizations in the United States. The New York City based foundation has notified Safe & Sound that it is one of the honorees.

Safe & Sound Helps Keep Doors of St. Catherine’s Gym Open A generous $10,000 grant from Safe & Sound will allow hundreds of youngsters to continue to play basketball and take part in educational activities this summer at a parish on the city’s west side, according to Ald. Michael J. Murphy.

Together with community stakeholders, we are holding the first annual ‘Basura Bash’ on May 31st from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Basura (trash) Bash is an effort to build upon our diversity and community pride, while removing the signs of crime and grime from the Southside of Milwaukee.
