Gallery Night at ArtWorks for Milwaukee

Safe & Sound’s collection of Safe Messages posters grew Friday evening when ArtWorks for Milwaukee unveiled the latest poster series by interns from the Spring session. It was fascinating to see what the amateur artist came up with, how their minds worked and how they wanted to share their voices and feelings.

Meghan Koven is the Executive Director for ArtWorks for Milwaukee and was among sixteen finalists for the MANDI awards which were announced in January. The five winners were announced live at the event. U.S. Bank also raffled off a $500 charitable donation that went to ArtWorks Milwaukee.

Kids helping, talking and reaching out to other kids is the idea behind a new youth-oriented cable television show. The show is designed to present the perceptions and views of youth living with violence. It is also designed to use media as a tool for improving youth’s self-esteem, critical thinking and leadership skills.

Safe Messages from Safe Place Artists
Meghan Koven, ArtWorks Executive Director, said that “while adults do a lot of hard work to deter young people from going down the wrong path, we believe messages created by young people/for young people will be more effective in encouraging positive change.”
