“This program is a unique, effective, and shining example of how community efforts can reduce drug use and its consequences,” said Gil Kerlikowske, White House Director of National Drug Control Policy. “Safe & Sound is an example of a local community taking action and addressing this issue head on. Drug use and its consequences strain our economy, our health care and criminal justice systems, and harm the well-being of young people, service members, and America’s workforce.”

Safe & Sound is helping to coordinate the many community improvement efforts with local block clubs, neighborhood associations and Safe Places. These projects will benefit residents and neighborhoods in Milwaukee by decreasing blight and increasing safety while demonstrating “community in action.”

Nominated by the Milwaukee HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area), Safe & Sound was the recipient of the 2010 Treatment and Prevention Efforts Award at the Annual ONDCP/HIDTA Banquet in Washington, DC.

The Mutual of America Foundation announced November 19th that it has selected the 10 best non-profit partnership organizations in the United States. The New York City based foundation has notified Safe & Sound that it is one of the honorees.
