Qualified Youth Organizations Being Sought to Become 2011 Afterschool Safe PlacesAugust 2010
Safe & Sound, Inc, Milwaukee’s comprehensive, proactive anti-crime initiative, is soliciting proposals from qualified youth-serving organizations to serve as part of its network of Safe Places. Norma J. Balentine, Director of Safe Places, announced the 2011 Request for Proposal process begins today, August 14, 2010 with the release of the RFP on the Safe & Sound website.
Safe & Sound mobilizes resources to measurably reduce violent crime by blending law enforcement, neighborhood organizing and youth crime prevention strategies.
The Safe Places Initiative is especially concerned with reducing crime by and against youth. The goal of this funding is to continue and expand year-round and summer-only programs for youth ages 10-19 within Safe & Sound’s 21 tough neighborhoods on the north and south sides of Milwaukee.
Safe Places will offer youth development services and programs that have shown to be effective in helping young people live healthy, productive and violence-free lives. To qualify for a grant, applicants must meet eligibility criteria including non-profit 501 (c) (3) status and location within the Safe & Sound target area.

A technical assistance meeting will be held August 23, 2010, from 9:30 – 11:00 am at the Safe & Sound offices. Applicants are strongly encouraged to attend, and can RSVP by calling (414) 220 – 4797.
